Abstract: This quasi-experimental study aims to find out how online activities influence the learning outcomes of Yogyakarta State University students on e-learning courses. This 4-week study consisted of two experimental groups and one control group. The experimental groups received face-to-face instruction plus e-learning or blended learning (BL) with online discussions and quizzes. The control group used Blended Learning without any online activities. Quantitative analytical results include 1) student’s learning outcomes in BL with online discussions and quizzes are better than those without any online activities. 2) The student’s learning outcomes in BL with online discussions and quizzes are also better than those with online quizzes. Furthermore, this study also found that 3) student’s learning outcomes in BL with online quizzes are better than those without any online activities and 4) there is a positive correlation between student’s learning outcomes and their level of activities in the BL environment.

Authors: Suhendar, Surjono, H.D., Slamet, P.H., Priyanto, Hanafi, I.

Publication: International Journal of Advanced Science and Technology, Vol. 29, No. 01, (2020), pp. 11-17. Indexed by SCOPUS

Abstract: The study aims to invent an effective model of cluster-based skills passport assessment (c-SPAM). The c-SPAM needed to improve the effectiveness of achieving level II national qualification framework certification in Indonesian vocational high schools (SMK). Data was collected using the instrument validated by experts via the Delphi technique. The c-SPAM would be more effectively applied as a cluster competency test in SMK if 1) Professional certification bodies (LSP) implement c-SPAM gradually from the end of grade 10, 2) Competent students in several competency units or clusters need to be recapitulated into a logbook or skills passport, 3) skills passport of student need to be completed by attachments the certificates of competency and cluster. All aspects of c-SPAM are validated with a significant number between 0.76 – 0.96 (above 0.75) and the Aiken index having an average of 0.87. Therefore, the graduates of SMK will get a skills passport, competency certificate, cluster certificate, qualification certificate, and diploma.

Mobile learning for assessment

Title: Pattern capacity participants exam of mobile learning for assessment

Authors: Heri Nurdiyanto, Herman Dwi Surjono, Priyanto

Publication: International Journal of Scientific and Technology Research 8 (9), pp.713 indexed by Scopus.

Abstract:

The adaptive assessment system is expressed as an interactive approach to assessing the learner in the learning system. Stages undertaken in the development of this system include determination of bank questions, determination of the initial ability level of examinees, selection of items, assessments, termination of tests, and conclusions about the ability of examinees. Determining the initial ability level of examinees is very important because its accuracy dramatically affects the effectiveness of a selection of questions. Rule-based methods are used to extract information, rule-based methods combined with machine learning techniques are proposed to assess the level of ability of regular students and students with special needs. Machine learning techniques used are Naive Bayes, Multilayer Perceptron, SMO, Decision Tree, JRIP, and J48. The best accuracy results are achieved using the JRIP rule-based method of 64.12. The rules for the determination of the level of ability are formed based on expert opinion. The strength of examinees to vary and the amount of data evolving lies in need for dynamic formation of rules. The discovery of patterns in the test data of the participants can be used as the basis for the creation of states to replace the expert as well as improve the prediction accuracy. It is necessary to extract the pattern so that it can be used for the formation of the initial capability rules for examinees.

Video-based Reflection System on Micro Teaching

Title: The effectiveness of iCRT Video-based Reflection System on Pre-service Teachers’ Micro Teaching Practice Focusing on Meaningful Learning with ICT

Authors: Ratumbuisang, K.F., Wu, Y.T., Surjono, H.D.

Publication: IOP Conf. Series: Journal of Physics: Conf. Series 1140 (2018) 012018 doi:10.1088/1742-6596/1140/1/012018 indexed by Scopus.

Abstract: This study tried to analyze the pre-service teacher performance in teaching practice while joining the teacher education program using developed system called i-Critical Reflection on Teaching (iCRT) video-based reflection and using traditional way which is paper-based reflection. The objects of this research are sixty pre-service teachers in Manado State University, Faculty of engineering, department education of information communication and technology who are in the third year of the teacher education program which divided in two groups, video-based (VB) reflection (experiment group) and paper-based (PB) reflection (control group) with 30 participants in each group. Quasi-experiment method was used in this study. Totally, 60 pre-service teacher. The VB-Reflection group was used iCRT reflection system and paper-based reflection used by PB-Reflection group. The result show that, there were significant differences between these two group in terms of how they doing the reflection (Self-Reflection, Peer-Reflection and Meta-Reflection) from round one to round three using meaningful learning with ICT framework. This finding indicated that pre-service teacher in video-based reflection group contribute more reflection than pre-service teacher in paper-based reflection. In addition, the analysis result of pre-service teacher teaching practice performance from self-reflection during round 1, round 2 and round 3, there were extremely positive changes showed in VB-Reflection group as well as those in paper-based reflection group with small changes. It also noticed that peer responses helped to encourage the growing awareness of teacher to change themselves in classroom teaching to be better. Therefore, it strongly recommends that the iCRT system use in teacher education program especially in micro teaching course to enhance the quantity and quality of reflection in order to produce qualified prospective teachers who are ready to face the real situation of teaching.
